ATLANTA, January 26, 2010
-- Beazer Homes USA, Inc. (NYSE: BZH), one of the nation’s top 10 homebuilders,
is hosting a complimentary webinar, Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 2p.m. (EST), featuring
building science expert Gord Cooke. The educational webinar,
High-Performance Homes:
The Blueprint to Savings, is designed to help prospective home buyers and real estate
professionals gain a better understanding of the energy- and money-saving benefits
of a high performance home compared to a typical code-built home.
To register for the webinar, go to

During the webinar presentation, Cooke will explain the latest construction techniques and
energy-saving features that are incorporated into today’s high-performance homes, and what
home buyers should look for in order to better gauge a home’s performance potential.
A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
“Our goal is to help home buyers learn more about the economical and ecological benefits
found in today’s high-performance homes,” said Kathi James, Beazer’s chief marketing officer.
“Much of what Beazer is doing to improve the performance of our homes, like creating a tighter
home seal to prevent air leakage, is based on proven building science principals.
We want buyers to understand how the advances we’re making on the construction side lower
overall operating costs.”
Beazer recently expanded its eSMART initiative to include progressive levels of high-performance homes,
all engineered as a whole-house system to achieve greater energy efficiency, conserve water and improve
indoor air quality.
To measure the performance of its eSMART homes, Beazer turned to the NAHB Research Center, which tested
popular models in various climate-specific zones and compared them to similar homes built to the Building
America Benchmark. The study found that, depending on home size and climate zone, Beazer’s eSMART high
performance homes can offer a 27 to 46 percent average energy cost savings over comparable houses built
to the Building America Benchmark. Additionally, with proper use of an included home energy monitor,
Beazer’s homeowners can decrease their annual electricity costs from five to 15 percent.
